Yep, you read that right. Bullying—one of the worst experiences of my life—turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to my business.
Let me explain…
For years, I thought I had to show up online perfectly polished. I thought I needed the right words, the right graphics, the right filters, the right EVERYTHING—because if I didn’t, someone would call me out.
They’d make fun of me.
They’d say I wasn’t good enough.
And I knew this because it had happened before.
Growing up, I was bullied for the way I looked, the way I talked, the way I existed.
So, I learned to blend in. To be likable. To not give anyone a reason to judge me.
But guess what? That same mindset followed me into my business.
I was over-editing myself to fit in when I should have been showing up to STAND OUT.
Then one day, I said, Enough.
I stopped trying to be “perfect” and started showing up as me.
Messy. Unpolished. Honest. I shared my struggles, my wins, my lessons—the real stuff.
And that’s when the magic happened.
My audience started to grow. My community became loyal. I attracted people who actually resonated with me—not the filtered, perfectly curated version of me I had been trying to present.
People don’t want perfect. They want real.
And that’s exactly why YOU need to start showing up authentically, too.
Why ChatGPT isn't Enough (And Never Will Be)
Listen, I love Chattie as much as the next person. AI is a game-changer. It saves time, helps brainstorm, and can structure content in a way that makes life easier.
BUT.
It’s too perfect. Too scripted. Too… robotic.
I can tell within 30 seconds of reading someone’s post whether they let AI do all the work.
And let me tell you—No Bueno!!
If you want REAL people to relate to you, you need to put real stories inside your content.
You need to inject personality, flaws, quirks, and human emotion—things AI can’t replicate.
AI is a tool, not a replacement for YOU. The second you strip away the human element, your content becomes forgettable.
And forgettable content doesn’t convert.
So, if you’ve been relying too much on AI, let me challenge you:
Go back to your story. THAT is your secret weapon.
If you’re stuck on how to start being more authentic online, here’s a simple but powerful exercise:
⏳ Set a timer for 15 minutes for each of these lists. Write down whatever comes to mind.
Accomplishments – Everything you’ve achieved, big or small.
Failures – Every lesson you’ve learned the hard way.
Dreams – Your wildest goals, the things you want most.
Fears – What keeps you up at night? What are you afraid to share?
Now, whenever you create content, pull from these lists. Share one personal detail each time you post—because THAT is what makes you relatable.
That’s what builds trust.
Your story is what makes you stand out. Use it.
